Electric Feel by MGMT
This song is what some may call spectacular. I mentioned this song in my teaser review/sommelier post for Vampire Academy. This is perfect for livening up your light nap or relaxation time one summer afternoon. Even better if you're with your significant other! The light, fun, almost dancing vibe is perfect for a summer afternoon.
Can I Call You Tonight by Dayglow
This is also the perfect, light vibe for a soak in the sun. Crooning vintage-feel vocals combine with a smooth and perfectly synthesized electric guitar. My favorite part is right before the chorus, where there's a small electric guitar fall. Just the cherry on top!
SUMMER by BROCKHAMPTON (E)
A slower, more serious song, this song expertly blends an intriguing opening line with a slight 90s feel. The background piano in the beginning (which continues throughout the song) is the perfect stark contrast to the lilting, drawn out vocals. Of course, there is *killer* electric guitar with its own solo. These three elements are all this song needs!
Cigarette Daydreams by Cage The Elephant
Ah, my favorite song. So, I may be a little biased, but it does not mean I don't want to recommend this for a summer afternoon. An opening acoustic guitar with fun, interesting piano chord progression is amazing. Only once in this entire song is the phrase 'Cigarette daydreams' mentioned, which seems in line with Cage the Elephant. However, the chorus mentioning 'driving in the pouring rain' appeals to me for some odd reason.
New Flesh by Current Joys
Heavily influenced by the 80's. With its opening synth line and 80's tuned vocals, this was not actually meant to be produced in 2013. Fun, funky vibes are absolutely perfect for summer afternoon by the pool.
Tightrope by Young the Giant
This song also has a slight 80's vibe, but the vocals were definitely written in this day and age. The background vocals enhance the echo-feel of the introduction. The beat drop (ish) is perfect in this song, exactly the feel I was looking for.
Sweet Talk by Saint Motel
This is the first and only song I've ever heard that makes clapping seem natural in a song and not super forced. So, kudos to Saint Motel. The opening piano chord progression is also perfect for this. If you know the lyrics, it's impossible not to sing along. The electric guitar in some of the verses is the perfect 'response' to the call of the vocals.
