Homecoming... Will It Happen? If It Does, Here's Your Playlist

Warning: Some recommended songs may contain explicit content. Marked with an (E) next to the song title.

Homecoming is one of those things. Some people don't like it, some people don't go, but overall, most teens enjoy the yearly dance. Unfortunately, (or fortunately, if you're mostly concerned with safety) homecoming will be canceled because of the global pandemic. This DOES NOT mean throw a huge houseparty with hundreds of people instead. What my friends and I are doing is gathering the fifteen or so of us and having our own homecoming - getting decked out, planning a theme, and taking lots of pictures.

As the resident music person of the group, I've taken it upon myself to create the playlist - taking into account the order of songs (not completed yet, sadly) and the flow. Mixing 2000's throwbacks that everyone likes with current hype rap, a few songs that only have meaning to my group of friends, but mostly throwbacks everyone knows and loves. I've sorted each song into a group - here you go! (And here's the playlist: exactly three hours.)

Hype / Dance Club Music:

“Ayy Ladies” – Travis Porter ft. Tyga (E)

- It's impossible NOT to dance to this song.

“Gas Pedal” – Sage the Gemini (E)

-The beat's less prevalent, but it's still great for *dancing*.

“No Hands” – Waka Flocka Flame ft. Roscoe Dash (E)

-Similar to "Ayy Ladies". The beat makes it impossible to not dance.

“My Type” – Saweetie (E)

- More for the ladies, but it's at every single dance I've ever been to.

“Act Up” – City Girls (E)

-Again, like "My Type". At every dance and for good reason.

“GOOBA” – 6in9ine (E)

-I hate the rapper, but I can't not have it at a dance.

“Tempo” – Lizzo (E)

-Ugh, I LOVE Lizzo. She did not fail us with this single.

“FEFE” – 6in9ine ft. Nicki Minaj (E)

-Similar to "GOOBA"- but it has Nicki!!

“WAP” – Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion (E)

-I'm going to be crucified by one or two people in my group who cannot

STAND this song, but it's necessary. Hopefully everyone knows their Meg!

Classic Homecoming Songs:

At every dance, ever. Not listened to outside hoco usually, however.

“Crank That” – Soulja Boy

-Famous for the YOuUuuU.

“Low” – Flo Rida ft. T-pain

-An older song, but if "Gas Pedal" was written in 2008.

“Tik Tok” – Kesha

-Another throwback. Iconic.

“HUMBLE.” – Kendrick Lamar (E)

-Another breed of song. This is the type of song where you have every

word memorized without even realizing it.

“Talk Dirty” – Jason Derulo (E)

-A little risque with the lyrics, but still a great homecoming song.

2000’s/Early 2010’s:

Everyone loves these. Everyone knows these. No explanations needed.

“Just Dance” – Lady Gaga

“Dynamite” – Taio Cruz

“Tonight Tonight” – Hot Chelle Rae

“DJ Got Us Falling In Love” – Usher, Pitbull (E)

“What Makes You Beautiful” - One Direction

“Can’t Hold Us” – Macklemore and Ryan Lewis

“Summer” – Calvin Harris

“Classic” – MKTO

“Timber” – Pitbull ft. Kesha

“Good Feeling” – Flo Rida

Last Century:

Usually, there's one of these songs per dance. I feel lucky that I can add four.

“Everybody Wants To Rule The World” – Tears For Fears

“Come On Eileen” – Dexys Midnight Runners

“Bohemian Rhapsody” – Queen

-I'm one hundred percent sure this will be the last song we play - an

excellent finale.

“Africa” – TOTO

-To scream the words to!

Chill Rap:

Less dance-necessary, but still great additions to the playlist. Widely known by my group especially, so keep that in mind!

“SICKO MODE” – Travis Scott (E)

-Less scream-worthy, but absolutely hype.

“iSpy” – KYLE, Lil Yachty (E)

-Released a few years ago, it's something everyone knows the words to.

“Ric Flair Drip” – Offset, Metro Boomin (E)

-Although I barely know this song, it seems like a great song to take a break to.

(No insult intended, Offset.)

“goosebumps” – Travis Scott (E)

-If you don't know this song, you should. Go listen to it.

“Blueberry Faygo” – Lil Mosey (E)

-Another very popular song. Thanks, TikTok!

“Faucet Failure” – Ski Mask the Slump God (E)

-Ski Mask absolutely won with this song. Excellent flow and lyrics. Thanks

for blessing my ears.

“Walk Man” – Tiny Meat Gang (E)

-More chill, but still great for a dance.

“Magic” – Yung Gravy (E)

-Similar to "Faucet Failure" only in that it's a lyrical masterpiece.

“Like That” – Doja Cat ft. Gucci Mane (E)

-Doja Cat is an icon. She 'spits bars', to borrow a phrase from a friend of mine.

“Levi High” – Danileigh ft. DaBaby (E)

-An iconic beat, and Danileigh and DaBaby make a great team.

For The Ladies:

Female rappers and singers are the best. Period.

“Fergalicious” – Fergie, will.i.am (E)

-Partially an inside joke with my group, but Fergie's part is iconic.

“Starships” – Nicki Minaj (E)

-Nicki will always be my top spot. A throwback, but still amazing.

“Truth Hurts” – Lizzo (E)

-Another one of those songs you know every word to after hearing it once.

“Bestie” – Bhad Bhabie, Megan Thee Stallion (E)

-No one likes this song except me and my best friend. Feel free to ignore :)

“break up with your girlfriend, I’m bored” – Ariana Grande (E)

-This song had me considering going back to my ex just because it's so good.

“Pound The Alarm” – Nicki Minaj (E)

-Another Nicki song!! It just gives me and the girls a seratonin rush.

“Fancy” – Iggy Azalea (E)

-A great beat, with a good 'f*ck-it-all' attitude.

“7 rings” – Ariana Grande (E)

-Incredibly iconic. Grande's first rap-type song, and hopefully not her last.

“Tia Tamera” – Doja Cat ft. Rico Nasty (E)

-Not very appropriate at all. However, a great beat and the girls love Doja.
