Warning: This book may be too difficult for just anyone- whether that be 'romance'-wise, politics, or something else. If you're under the age of thirteen, ask a parent or guardian's advice, please!
Internment has it all. Gripping scenes, a difficult discussion, political tension, and young revolutionaries and martyrs.
Samira Ahmed does an incredible job of recreating the world around us, and shooting us twenty, maybe even ten years into the future. She uses great turns of phrase and word choice, while maintaining the age of the main character, Layla.
Similarly, Ahmed does a good job balancing the revolutionary spirit of Layla with her burgeoning age and adulthood. She is still a teen, but is able to (spoiler warning) organize an uprising and a national media outcry.
Overall, this book is a 9.5/10. Just because I am a weak woman and I want a perfect happy ending, I'm taking half a point off. I recommend this book totally!
